1

Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry services are designed to maintain your oral health and prevent plaque and bacteria from wreaking havoc on your smile. To protect your smile from decay and gum disease, we provide dental cleanings, routine exams and x-rays, dental sealants, and fluoride treatments.

2

Pediatric Dentistry

We encourage you to bring your child to see us early to help prevent dental anxiety and encourage them to develop excellent oral hygiene habits when they’re young. Pediatric dentistry in West Islip and Oceanside, NY includes regular exams, digital x-rays, and fillings.

3

Emergency Dentistry

We understand that life is full of the unexpected and teeth are no exception! We don’t think anyone should have to suffer the consequences of a cracked or knocked-out tooth, broken restorations, or painful toothaches. Should you experience a dental emergency, we’ll do everything we can to schedule a same or next-day appointment to resolve your painful problem.

4

Cavity Fillings

Tooth decay is a common oral health problem that impacts people through all stages of life. Early detection and treatment of cavities in Oceanside and West Islip, NY is essential to help prevent the need for more extensive services like root canals and dental implants. Composite fillings provide a more natural-looking option than traditional amalgam fillings to restore strength and aesthetics to your tooth after decay is removed. Using a metal-free option also eliminates the risk of allergic reactions or health issues related to mercury release.

5

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are one of the most common oral surgery procedures performed by general dentists. If a tooth is too damaged to save, extraction is often the best option for preventing the spread of infection and eliminating discomfort. During this procedure, Dr. Calderón or Dr. Rypl will gently pull your tooth, being careful not to disturb healthy bone or gum tissue.

6

Endodontic Treatments

We provide endodontic services including retreatment, root canal therapy, and apicoectomy surgery. During a root canal in Oceanside and West Islip, NY, inflamed or infected pulp is removed from the affected canal in your tooth. Then the canal is disinfected and cleaned before being filled and sealed with a special hardening material to prevent bacteria from entering the chamber and root canal. If a root canal was done in a molar or premolar, a crown is required. Treatment weakens the outer tooth and molars take the brunt of chewing impact so they need to be ultra-strong.

Although most root canals are successful, previously undetected canals branching from the primary canal at the root end of the tooth, or narrowing and hardening of canals can cause infections. During an apicoectomy, the tip of the tooth root and any adjacent inflamed or infected tissue are removed to prevent further damage or extraction. Then a small filling is placed in the end of the root canal to seal it and prevent recurring infection.

7

Crowns and Bridges

If you’re missing just one or two teeth, dental crowns or bridges are an alternative option to dental implants. Crowns are porcelain or ceramic “caps” for your teeth that conceal cosmetic and functional damage. Dental bridges are a fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth that consist of an artificial tooth anchored by a crowned tooth on each side.

8

Occlusal adjustment

Occlusal adjustment involves modifying the biting surfaces of a tooth or teeth to improve biting and chewing function. This procedure also helps prevent the repercussions of malocclusion (improper bite), including tooth pain, sensitivity to heat and cold, worsening gum disease, etc. Occlusal adjustment is often necessary for the placement of crowns. Careful and minimal shaping of the tooth surfaces is done repeatedly until proper contact is made, the height is correct, and the bite feels natural to you.
